City: Monterey (CA)
Event: Laguna Seca

The 2002 turbo was only built in 1973 & 1974. It predated the Porsche 930 turbo, which was the car the probably really inserted the word 'turbo' into the car enthusiast's mind. But the 2002 turbo beat it to the punch. With 170 BHP from its 2 litre engine and weighing 1080 kilos it gave 0-60 mph in 7.5 secs and a top speed of 130 mph. Nothing much to write home about today but impressive in the 70's.

That's just lovely. I used to hang out with a guy who had one of these and he was absolutely OBSESSED with them! Quite a bit of fun was had on wet roundabouts (surely the only kind of roundabout here in rainy old England!)

Those graphics are original, right? They are the M colours, but pre-date the M Division?? So this would have been the early seventies version of an M3? The 170 hp is pretty impressive given that an 89 M3 has ~195 hp.

Yes, it's all original. The 2002 turbo was only available in white & silver. The stripes are correct. The instrument panel surround is is a terracotta sort of red and it has special steering wheel and seat trim. I couldn't get any pics of the front of the car, but the front spoiler has 'turbo' written in mirrored script on it to intimidate the car that it's coming up behind. Very cool.
