You can keep your Playboys & Penthouses, this will do me. This perfect very early 930 was at Eastern Creek racetrack, Sydney, today. Not racing, just parked. The chassis number on the registration label shows that it is chassis number 80, meaning that it was built in 1974 for the 1975 model year. I worked at Sydney's Porsche dealer when this car was new - I have photos of it that I took in 1975 - and the turbo was an absolute sensation back then. It was unbelievably fast, 260 horsepower remember, and it looked as if it had escaped from Le Mans. 260 BHP may not sound like much now, but back then it was stratospheric. The first time I drove a turbo I could not believe how quick it was. The turbo lag was significant, but the effect when it came on boost was like a light switch. It was as if another engine had kicked in. And it was something I never got tired of. The original turbo is such a 70's car. Check out (pun intended) that interior trim. Crazy, man. The turbo was the flagship of the Porsche range, it had everything. Which in those days wasn't a whole lot. Aircon, stereo, partial leather trim, electric windows...that was about it. No electric mirrors, no sunroof, no 5th gear. Not even bigger brakes, just the brakes off the Carrera RS from 1973. But it was really all about the engine, the guard flares and that rear wing. You could play 'Porsche works driver' on the way to work every day! This is a truly fabulous car.
