Not sure if this is an 840 or an 850. I managed to grab a bad shot of it as I drove past. I think it's one of the best looking cars of recent times.

Hmmm, I'm very enamoured of the current Audi lineup. The S5 coupe makes me go all squirty inside. The current BMW crop leaves me cold. They're quite nice, but somehow bland. Plus, the bloody things are everywhere. But then, variety (of opinions) is the spice of life.

I agree with mgray - this is the penultimate beautiful Beemer - the CSL is just sex-on-wheels. You can pick these up in England for pennies - how about a V12 for £3k? Their depreciation curve must have been catastrophic.

You do have a soft spot for the CSL, doncha? Three grand for an 850? Must have scarily high mileage. The cheapest I could find on carpoint.com.au is a 1990 850i with 212,000 k's at $24,000.

Oh I do love CSLs. That induction roar, the looks, the no-compromise nature of the thing....mmmmm. As for 8-Series, there are only 40 for sale on the whole of Autotrader UK. Here's the cheapest V12 at £3295 or about AUD $5300, although it has done 160k miles (260k kms!): http://alturl.com/h45yq. Only a very brave person would take on a 160k mile V12-engined anything, I guess. Also found this, a 12,700 miles V12 for £5500!: http://alturl.com/mvhy2. I am truly tempted by that one! My insurance would probably be more than the asking price! It's a bit of a shame that the only ones I ever see are driven by what one might describe as 'independent pharmaceutical salespersons'...

Despite Oz being demonstrably the world's best country, we do get shafted when it comes to car prices. There was an 'independent pharmaceutical salesperson' shot 5 times in his black Gallardo Spyder outside his Sydney home a while back. He survived. No worn out pre-Bangle V12s for our boys.

JA, hilarious that you to have a certain demographic that drive these gems ;)
