Yesterday one of Sydney's premier Porsche workshops and racecar builders had an open day. Invitations were extended to Porsche Car Club members only. It was a fascinating day, poking around underneath GT3s, 997s, racers etc. The staff conducted talks on engines, transmissions, suspensions, regular servicing, racecar prep etc etc. A highlight was the opportunity to get up close and personal with the 997 GT3 Cup S racer, currently leading the Australian GT Championship against Gallardos, DB9s, F430s, F360s, Moslers, Exiges, Vipers, and of course other GT3s. The car is incredible close up. So much carbon fibre. I was amazed at how light the doors are, carbon in and out and just a simplified door lock mechanism. The front guards (fenders) are carbon/kevlar, the rears are carbon. It cost AUD$750,000. Worth every cent! Only 15 of the Cup S spec cars have so far been built.
