City: Sydney Australia
Event: Workshop

Yesterday one of Sydney's premier Porsche workshops and racecar builders had an open day. Invitations were extended to Porsche Car Club members only. It was a fascinating day, poking around underneath GT3s, 997s, racers etc. The staff conducted talks on engines, transmissions, suspensions, regular servicing, racecar prep etc etc. A highlight was the opportunity to get up close and personal with the 997 GT3 Cup S racer, currently leading the Australian GT Championship against Gallardos, DB9s, F430s, F360s, Moslers, Exiges, Vipers, and of course other GT3s. The car is incredible close up. So much carbon fibre. I was amazed at how light the doors are, carbon in and out and just a simplified door lock mechanism. The front guards (fenders) are carbon/kevlar, the rears are carbon. It cost AUD$750,000. Worth every cent! Only 15 of the Cup S spec cars have so far been built.

WOW! Sounds like a phenomenal day. That is one crazy race car. Who wouldn't want a race car designed by Porsche's best engineers!

Yes, I noticed that too. I might have expected PCCB or carbon brakes. But I'm sure the guys at Weissach know what they're doing.

Love the shot with your friend's 993 and the 997 GT2, and the garage in the background. What a cool photo.

Very nice car. Why the sweatband in front ? [

Good pick up. The driver told me it's one of his little quirks. He puts the sweatbands on the brake reservoirs to catch the overflow and keep it off the paint.

OOOOh would you just look at that 356!!! It nearly makes me cry that I don't have that in my garage. Or a garage.
