Well kids, I've discovered the perfect car. I no longer hanker for a Gallardo. Not even for a 997 GT3. A very generous, if somewhat misguided, mate of mine lent me his 993RS for 3 days. And after 3 days of city traffic, freeway driving, undulating country roads, 15 kph 1st gear hairpins and 180 kph blasts down long straights, I can assure you that nobody needs more than than the 300 BHP that the 993 RS has. Although I will admit to a 911 bias, this really is the perfect car. Small, agile, blisteringly fast, incredible grip, pin-sharp steering, fantastic noises, rifle bolt gear shift, eye-popping brakes, race car looks...I could go on. And I will. I could find no faults with the RS, except that I can't afford one. I can see the appeal & desirability of supercars : Gallardo, F430, Veyrons & McLarens. But this RS has so much more performance than you really need, why bother? It has usable performance, certainly enough to get you into a heap of trouble, and I don't just mean with the constabulary. But I do now question the need for more. And I'm a long term, died-in-the-wool petrol head going back many decades. But seriously, where other than on track, can you really exploit the performance of an Enzo or a Zonda etc? I reckon you'd have more fun on the road at 100 k's in an MX-5 or an Elise than at 200 in a supercar. If you can, get your ass into an 993 RS and see if I'm correct. By the way, the other car in the pics is a 1966 912. 30 years between the two cars. Lots of changes, but very few changes.
