Porsche 911 Sport Classic 1st Spot - 1

I'm not convinced of the investment potential. The '73 RS at least offered more performance than the 'standard' 911s, and it was the flagship of the range. I know that SC has the engine upgrade kit, but it's no GT2. But you never can tell, when I worked at Sydney's then only Porsche dealer a new 1973 2.7 RS was AUD$17,700. Who could ever have forseen them bringing over $500K 37 years later?

It should always be collectable due to very limited numbers produced. I think the next big investment opportunites from Porsche will be early 911 turbos, 996 GT3's and from Ferrari, 308, 328 and Testarossa's. All priced right at the moment but should go crazy in the next 10yrs!

Actually, I'm pretty sold on the Sport Classic. I'd never buy one instead of, say a GT3, but it is a lovely thing to behold. I believe they're only making 250 units, presumably all bought by collectors (all were sold before it was officially 'on sale'), so they will most likely lead pampered lives and still be worth a lot of cash when the time comes to sell. I don't think the mark-up will be 2.7 rich, but any rare Porsche seems a sound investment to me - 964 RS prices have gone crazy here in the last few months. Some 996 GT3s are as low as £30k here, which I can't see staying the same for long. Not long enough for me to save £30k, anyway!
