Pitlane at Mt Panorama circuit Bathurst Australia - 20

Album details

Capture Date: Apr. 5, 2010
City: Bathurst Australia
Event: Festival of Sports Cars

For the last 3 Easter weekends Mt Panorama has hosted the Festival Of Sports Cars. All types of cars were there, only one lonely Ferrari though. The rest were probably off sipping lattes somewhere. But other marques were well represented. Lotuses, Fords, Chevies, tons of Porsches, Holdens...you name it. I only went up for one day, and spent most of the time wandering around the paddock, so I didn't see much track action. These pics show some of the the cars lined up in pitlane. And of course, Mt Panorama is the world's greatest racetrack. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mt_Panorama_Circuit

I must say, Mt Panorama is on the list of 'must drives' for me - blame YouTube! Love the album cover (last pic)..."Yeah, er, sorry mate, you've brought the wrong make of car along..."

It wasn't an exclusively Porsche event, but from my photos you could be excused for thinking that. Click the blue 'Festival of Sports Cars' link to see yet more photos of yet more Porsches. And GT40s. And Lotuses. And other good gear.

Thanks for making that a link, Anthony.

Ah, another not-very-funny joke by myself goes unappreciated! Hehe, was the track time split into different marques? If so the Porsche session must have been a tad hectic! Lucky it's a long track, I guess.

If you're a Playstationer, Mt Panorama is on V8 Supercars 3. My lap record is a 1:29 in a Williams F1 car. I've driven the track in a 968CS tarmac rally car. Among other vehicles. I can't imagine what it would like at race speeds, it's pretty intimidating at legal speeds. When there isn't a meeting there it's a public road with a 60 k/mh speed limit. So on Conrod Straight where the fast guys hit 300, there are "60" speed limit signs. That's 60 in a circle, not sixty signs. One day I'll do it on the Ducati. Your jokes are always, umm, appreciated. The track sessions were spilt into classes so the GT1 wasn't up against 356s.

I had absolutely no idea it's a public road! That must be the ultimate test of self-control to not floor it coming down the Conrod. I could never get a smooth line coming through the Esses on TOCA Race Driver 3, always ended up in the wall. Come to think of it, the V8 Supercars was the one championship I never completed on the game. I do remember shouting "Cheating Australian B-tards!" more than once, as I was spun out of the lead on the last corner yet again! Always remember hearing the V8 race meets described as "A huge fight, during which occasionally a race might break out" and from my limited viewings on ESPN I guess that's a pretty accurate description.

Indeed. A the top of the Mountain, where Skyline is, it's Sodom & Gomorrah all over again, but with limitless quantities if beer thrown in for good measure. There have been years when, at night, Police cars have been overturned & set on fire. Just another night in country New South Wales, really.

Love their beer-limit-per-person that's now imposed. A feeble 24 cans per person per day. That outta stop anyone getting drunk and fighting! I was actually referring to the on-track mayhem though! Nice to see a parity between the on and off track events, I guess. I can't really imagine the Harris Tweed brigade having a good old scrap at Brands Hatch after one too many glasses of Pimms!..... "What's that Godfrey? You think the MGB's rear axle layout is a joke? PUT UP YOUR DUKES, OLD MAN!!!"
