Niki Lauda March F2 Race Car - 1

Album details

Capture Date: Nov. 30, 2008
City: Perth (AUS)

I must confess to ignorance on this car. I know it's not an F1 car, so I suppose it's an F2 car. From the chassis plate on the dash I also guess that's it's a 1972 model. Someone else out there in Madwhips land may know more about it. It was at a historic meeting at Sydney's Eastern Creek raceway.

It is indeed the March Works F2 car raced exclusively by Niki Lauda throughout 1972 and he won the 1972 John Player British F2 championship in the car. It is restored to / presented as driven by Lauda at Hockenheim in October 1972. During 1972 Lauda used a variety of BDA, BDF and BDG engines in the car, ranging from 1.8 to 2.0 litre, by various makers including RES, Cosworth, Smith and Richardson. It is currently fitted with a BDG. It was sold by March in Dec 1972 at the end of the season and has been owned by 7 owners (mostly in the UK) before arriving to Australia in 1995. It was owned by James Hunt (ex F1) in his private collection from 1990 to 1993 until his death then remained in his estate until 1995. It is currently owned by John Gale of Sydney.

Yes indeed. Thanks for the info. It's always good to get the facts. There's too much misinformation flying around the net, and once it's on the net it becomes fact whether it's true or not.
