Jensen Interceptor Mk III - 1

Album details

Capture Date: Jan. 18, 2008
City: Sydney Australia
Event: Street capture

The Jensen Interceptor was built in the UK between 1966 & 1976. They ran a Chrysler V8 of up to 7.2 litres (440 cubes). They were available as a 'hatchback', as in the photos, a convertible or a coupe. In 1967 there was a four wheel drive version known as the Jensen FF. This version had anti-lock brakes and traction control, not bad for 1967. In Feb this year it was announced that a run of 50 would be built with a few modern day updates. The car in the photos is riding a bit high at the back, but given its condition I suspect that it may be in the process of restoration and not completed yet.

It was an interesting period. There were a few European cars which used big block US V8s. Jensen, Monterverdi, AC428, Cobra, Iso, and probably some more that I've forgotten. The Monterverdis and Isos had beautiful bodies with Chrysler or GM big blocks. I remember back in the 60s reading Sports Car World mag about these incredibly exotic cars. They seemed to be from a different planet when we were tooling around in Mk I Cortinas and clapped out Hillmans. Great days, great days.

I spelt Monteverdi wrongly. Bugger.

Not so little really, the Interceptor is a full 4 seater with at big V8. More a GT than a sports car.

In relation to other cars at the time (especially here in the UK), the Interceptor was enormous!
