Black HSV W427

I've never seen one of these on the road, the only ones I've seen before were at the Sydney Motor Show. HSV (Holden Special Vehicles) is to Holden what AMG is to Mercedes. The W427 hit the tarmac in 2008, and runs a 7 litre 375Kw - over 500bhp - naturally aspirated V8 which kicks the car to 100 k's in 4.7 seconds. Not bad considering that it weighs 1.9 tonnes. Sidebar : what are cars so bloody heavy these days? Discuss. It has a unique-to-the-W427 6 speed manual, no auto option. 20 wheels wear 245mm & 275mm Bridgestones. Six piston...

There were also a great collection of them at Bathurst over Easter. http://www.madwhips.com/1958-holdens-at-mt-panorama-circuit-bathurst-australia/ It's bit hard to see in this iPhone pic, but it was being driven by a young platinum blonde, she may have been on her way to an event, or just living in the 50s. The car has most of the options available at the time : weathershield above the windscreen, front & rear mudflaps, door handle scuff protectors (they're the little triangular thingies beneath the door handles). I'm fairly sure that back...

This car can be described in one word as a 'beast'! The exterior changes are rather minor but the give the car an overall more aggresive look. I really like the exhausts!! The main changes though are under the bonnet, this baby produces 480kW and 803nM of torque. That is more power and more torque than a Murcielago LP640. These insane power figures are achieved by a Walkinshaw Performance WP190 Supercharger.

Peter Brock was Australia's most revered, and one of its most successful racing drivers. He was known as "Peter Perfect". He won the the Bathurst race at Mount Panorama, Australia's most prestigious endurance road race, a record 9 times, the only person to do so. He died in September 2006 at the wheel of a Daytona Coupe replica in a race in Western Australia. He had raced this 1948 Holden at Goodwood the week before and arrived back in Oz (I think) the day before the event in which he died. When I pulled in at the pub there, I found that the Monaro boys were there also. These shots show both early, mid, late and even 4 door versions of the Monaro. The Monaro is the sporty version of the 'standard' Holden Kingswood & Commodore sedans. The first Monaro was introduced back in 1968, and proved to be a great success, both in the showroom and on the racetrack. They've also been exported to South Africa, Great Britain, the Middle...

If you don't live in Australia, you've probably never heard of this car. Down here we don't have the F-350 class of monster trucks, we have these instead. It's the ute version of the Holden Commodore, which some markets know as the Pontiac G8. There's also a corresponding Ford, based on the Falcon. HSV - Holden Special Vehicles - makes the big mutha version of the more mundane Commodores. This is the ute version. It runs a 6.2 litre V8 giving 317 kw. Hence the 317 badge on the tailgate. 550 Nm of torque sounds good too. I love it! For...
