Holden SV6 ute - 1

Album details

Capture Date: Apr. 1, 2009
City: Sydney Australia
Event: Street capture

Back in the '30s (I think), an Aussie farmer wrote to Ford Australia asking for a vehicle in which he could carry the sheep, pigs and hay during the week, and then take the family to church on Sunday. A designer at Ford went to work, and came up with the Utility. It probably didn't take long for it to become known as the ute. Since then the Ford and Holden utes have been the mainstay of the farmer. Tough, simple, comfortable...just the ticket! In recent years the focus has changed somewhat, to the point where the Holden ute is now available with up to the LS3 engine with 317kw. More details at www.hsv.com.au  This particular example is a 3.6 litre, 195kw V6. When I find an HSV version, I'll try and grab some shots.

Oliver, what do you think this UTE? The shape and design is slowly growing on me.

Colour looks quite good too. What bridge is that in the background? Looks like a pretty prominent landmark.

I like them. The Ford Falcon versions look very similar in profile. The hot ones, HSV Holdens or FPV Falcons, are very popular here. They've almost become a type of sports car. I'd have one, but I'm not sure whether I'd go Ford or Holden. They both appeal. I remembered last night that I'd posted these shots a while back http://www.madwhips.com/holden-hsv-maloo/ The bridge is the Sydney Harbour Bridge, it also appears in these shots http://www.madwhips.com/ford-festiva-as-urban-art-installation/ When you come down here, you must do a Bridgeclimb. That's where you climb the Bridge arch, up to the top and back. The view is amazing!

Well, I must say an XR6 Turbo would be a hoot. But an HSV R8 would be be nice too. I still say it's a tough choice. I've never subscribed to the Ford vs Holden war. They're both good products. However, going back a few years, I'd go for a Phase III HO over the contemporary Monaro. And bear in mind, this is only an SV6 in the photos.
