I love the GT40. I think it's one of the greatest shapes ever. And not just in cars. Leonardo da Vinci couldn't have done better.

GORGEOUS cover photo of an utterly classic shape. Captured Beautifully. How did you get the glass on the upstairs railing to match the colours of the car's gulf paint scheme?

Well, it wasn't easy. But as with everything, it's not what you know, or who you know.....it's what you know about who you know.

I'm always amazed how so many cars built with such a single-minded approach (i.e. winning races) can be quite so beautiful! Or maybe it's just that the majority of 60's machinery was beautifully styled. Still one of the most evocative cars ever, the GT40, in my opinion.

Yes, I've often noticed the same. Look at the Ferrari P4. Surely the most voluptuous car ever. The Ferrari 250SWB. Perfectly proportioned. http://www.madwhips.com/1959-250-gt-berlinetta-swb/ The D-Type. Wonderful. Porsche 917. Fabulous, once they added the high tail so it would stay attached to Planet Earth. http://www.madwhips.com/steve-mcqueen-and-jerry-seinfeld-porsche-917/ As dramatic as they are, I don't find the current & recent crop of, say, Le Mans prototypes to be attractive.

Very true... I'm gonna scapegoat someone and blame the F.I.A. Too much focus on aero and outright grip, and not enough focus on handling and driver skill, makes for less-beautiful racing cars, I think. Sometimes I do think I should have been born in the 50's and not the 80's - by the time I was old enough to know my pistons from my conrods, pretty much all of the great racing series/cars had been and gone. Le Mans Classic, here I come!

Don't tell me you've never been to Goodwood?!? Even I've been there and I don't exactly live next door. You have to do it, if you like the old stuff you'll just be beside yourself. A couple of mates of mine here are off the Le Mans Classic in June, I'm expecting a glowing report. If I was well enough I'd go too, but "We'll always have Monterey."

I've been over a couple of times, but not for a few years now. Love it. The last time I went was when Porsche had just launched the Carrera GT so 2005ish. I'm definitely going this year, it would be a bit silly not to - it's technically in the same county as where I live, all of 40 miles away!
