Genuine Porsche 550 spyder - 1

Album details

Capture Date: Mar. 9, 2007
City: Phillip Island racetrack
Event: Historic meeting

Owned by the Porsche factory, and resident at the Porsche musem, this 550 is the first race car EVER to wear sponsorship. It ran in the 1954 Carrera Panamericana in Mexico. Its chassis number is 550-04. A truly historic and incredibly valuable car. it runs the famous Porsche 4 cam 1.5 engine. The cams are gear-driven in an incredibly complex arrangement. The gear train looks like a watch. Beautiful.

Man!!! What a super-significant Porsche. Just Magnificent! The notes on how to handle are very interesting too. Any idea what this thing could be worth, if one could put a price on it even?

It's impossible to put a value on cars like these. The factory would never let it go. The Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost registered AX-201, the ex-Stirling Moss Mercedes-Benz SLR number 722 and other cars such as these are really historical artifacts to which a dollar value can't be attached. We should be grateful that they're still around, Enzo Ferrari had all the Type 156 sharknose F1 cars crushed after their careers finished.
