Arctic Silver Boxster Spyder

The pure sports car, light and powerful is now called Boxster Spyder. With a 320-hp, 3.4-liter flat-six mid mounted engine and a curb weight under 2900 lbs the Spyder posts a 0-to-60-mph time of 4.6 seconds. Your first trip down a winding road with the new Spyder brings a renewed acquaintance with the term “euphoric rush.” The engine makes power and torque everywhere and accelerates to its 7400-rpm redline in a silky, seamless surge, with spot-on throttle response. The car feels immediately quicker and more willing than any Boxster you've ever driven.
986 Boxster S I drove today

A very generous, if somewhat misguided mate of mine let me have a thrash in his Boxster S today. I'd only driven one Boxster before, a 2.5 litre some years ago. Great little car, but the usual caveat applied : not enough power. The 3.2 litre S certainly can't be accused of that. What a great car, I can see why Porsche has sold so many of them. Terrific sound from the engine, great 'box, steering, brakes, seating position, plenty of grunt. Everything is just right. And driving through the countryside with the roof down in a black Boxster S on...

Boxster Spyder PDK at Mt Panorama Circuit

This is most likely the first Spyder in the country. It was on display at the Festival Of Sports Cars at Mt Panorama circuit at Bathurst Australia over the Easter weekend. It sorted of faded into the background because it was beside a Martini 935 - the 370bhp, 1.4 litre 'Baby' - & the only road registered 1998 GT1. Still, it was interesting to see one, though I must admit to being a bit disappointed at it being a PDK.

The new base model Boxster 2.9 has had a price reduction here from AUD$127,000 to AUD$115,000 due to a reduction in the import duty imposed by our benevolent government. The cars now come standard with heated sports seats, touch screen computer, iPod connectivity, rear parking sensors, rear wind deflector and probably a couple of other things I've forgotten. Seems like a bargain to me.

I like Boxsters. If you have't driven one, try to do so. However I don't usually like the Speedster panel behind the seats. It generally looks too added on. Somehow though, it works on this one. Might be the combination of wheels, rake, colour, de-badging. It also has a 996 GT3 front clip.

Really enjoyed driving the new Boxster S with 7spd PDK gearbox! I also think it had a sports exhaust as it sounded wild! Went on some great drives through Malibu and Hollywood and also around Beverly Hills. Once again, no plates. Does anyone know what the regulations are on this in the USA? And I don't think it's a girls car WD ;-)
