This is the first one of these that I've seen. It was on a road test for the Sydney Morning Herald newspaper, being driven by Toby Hagon, for those who read the Herald. He'd been taking a mate for a ride - the butcher with the knives in his holster. The car was only there for a few seconds, hence the rather ordinary photos. I asked the butcher what the car was like from the co-pilot's seat. He said the sound inside was incredible, and when the car drove off, from outside it was even better. I've never heard a NASCAR, but they couldn't sound any better than this. He also said that Mercedes-Benz Australia is holding 60 deposits for these for the whole country at half a mill each. There was a piece in the paper here a couple of weeks ago about the SLS. It said that those delivered here will come with a car cover and a trickle charger, because M-B Oz figures that they'll spend most of their lives sitting in a garage. Seems a shame. In one of the shots you can see that the door handle is protruding. I noticed this at the time, and watched it as the car roared off down the road. Sure enough, the handle slowly retracted automatically. Nice.
