Capture Date: Jul. 29, 2010
City: Sydney Australia
Event: Porsche Workshop
I called into a mate's Porsche workshop today just to poke around and generally get in the way. Amongst all the GT3s, Carreras, race cars and so on was this very appealing GT2. It has carbon fibre doors, bonnet, lightweight windows, full cage, full race harnesses, megabrakes etc etc. I don't know what engine mods it has, but it would have to have well over 500bhp. It's registered for road use. Cool! And the owner calls it Jennifer? Well, why not? Mercedes cars are named after the daughter of an early Daimler customer. And I think I read somewhere that the Lotus Elise was named after the designer's daughter. Glad her name wasn't Maude. I don't think that would have helped sales.

By the way, the 993 turbo on the trailer is interesting too. It's got 475bhp, carbon fibre doors, carbon fibre bonnet, carbon fibre replacement sunroof panel and has had the front diff and associated bits removed. The car now weighs 1275 kilos. Very trick.

Hardcore! Interesting how that spec reads almost exactly like that of the new GT2 RS, bar the power figure. Looks mean as hell with the carbon bits and black wheels. Liking the Cup 3/4 windows, too. Lucky he's done all those mods - I've heard GT2s are a bit slow straight from the factory. Oh, and congrats on the 911th Porsche gallery!

From the ever-reliable Wiki(!) - 'The Elise was named after Elisa, the granddaughter of Romano Artioli who was chairman of Lotus at the time of the car's launch.'

Sick album OS, but that 993 is ridiculous!! Any more pics of it?

Sorry, no. It's off to Phillip Island racing next weekend but I'll see it again somewhere . . . Thanks James, I knew it was something like that. That would be the Romano Artioli of EB110 fame. I guess in a tenuous way we have him to thank for the Veyron. Or not.

It must be depressing working on this stuff all day when you could be working on exciting things like a Falcon Taxi or a Toyota Hybrid. In all seriousness, how does the car maintain road registration without the airbag?

Maybe his cousin issues the pink slip. And down here, a pink slip is the annual mechanical inspection which allows the car to be re-registered. "Racing for pink slips" doesn't really happen here.
