I like Porsches. There. I've said it. In amongst a long & proud line of hits, I'm the first to admit that there been a few misses. The 924 - profitable for the company but hardly a true Porsche. At least it spawned the excellent 944s & 968. The Panamera - good to drive, not good to look at. And does anyone remember the March Indy car? Porsche would probably prefer it if you didn't. The turbo cabriolet is also, in my eyes, a miss. Yes, it's fast. Exclusive. Expensive. To many, aspirational. But to me it has everything that you don't want in a Porsche : the unavoidable sloppiness of the roofless cab chassis, the added weight of four wheel drive, the added weight of the electric roof, the added weight of things like electric seats, all those stereo speakers etc. And it's more than likely a Tiptronic. I know that there's a market for these and that Porsche has to build them. However to me it's probably the least desirable car in the range. Thank heavens for the GT3s, Boxster Spyder . . the Porsches that have stayed true to the original Porsche ethos of light weight, simplicity, purity.
