I took these shots at Eastern Creek racetrack in Sydney in May. The flames contrast nicely with the black paint. It's a 1974 or 1975 2.7 Carrera. The 210bhp ROW version, not the emasculated US version.

Flatnose Porsche Cabrio

Spotted this on a rare sunny Sunday afternoon recently. He didn't take too kindly to a guy (me) driving alongside while leaning over his passenger seat brandishing an iPhone, so he overtook and booted it for the horizon. I don't blame him. Oh, and we do actually have vertical lamp-posts here in England, I guess Apple's crappy camera can't deal with 85 mph passes....

A Porsche Club drive south of Sydney

Each month the Porsche Club of New South Wales has at least one social event. It may be a country drive, an observation run, a slot car race or a go kart race. This event was a country drive down the coast south of Sydney to a town called Kiama for lunch, then a drive further south into Kangaroo Valley. There were over 30 Porsches on the run, a great sight on the roads. I drove a 1975 2.7 Carrera targa. The run was about 400 kilometers, a great day's driving. The roads around Jamberoo, Kiama & Kangaroo Valley are ideal...

I decided that it was time for a blast so I contacted some mates & roped them into a drive in the bush. Less than hour from the centre of Sydney there are some truly great drivers' roads. For those who know the geography, we met at Galston, went north to Wiseman's Ferry and then back to the pub at Pitt Town for lunch. There were some members of the Porsche Club as well some mates of mine. There were some Boxsters, 911s, an RX-8, an evo 10, an MX-5 and an MR2. The Esprit & Camaro in the pics were...

I took these shots a few years back, just found them again. These are very rare down here. Anywhere, really. I have driven one a fair bit. Not really all that quick, but still very appealing. The little screen, the roof that the owner's handbook says will not protect you from rain, those fabulous turbo flares....such an 80's car.

800 bhp 1979 Porsche 935 K3

Yes, 800 bhp. The K3 was the ultimate version of the 935, itself the Group 5 version of the road-going 930 turbo. This car was just incredible to watch through the Corkscrew. When he gassed it at the bottom of the dipper it literally launched down the short straight. It was difficult to photograph because when it came on boost it would just hurtle down the track. A car has to be really, really quick if you can actually see it accelerate. It was fantastic to watch lap after lap. And the sound! More pics of this car are at http://www.madwhips.com/porsche-935-k3/...

2010 Singer 911 prototype

This lovely 911 was on display in the paddock at Laguna Seca. It started life as a mid 80's 3.2 Carrera and is a sort of replica of a 60's 911 ST, bodywise. It runs a 3.8 litre engine giving 425 BHP. It uses a GT3 crankshaft and titanium connecting rods and revs to 8,000 RPM. Weighing in at 2400 lbs (1088 kilos), it must be a rocket. The workmanship was extraordinary, utterly perfect. It uses Hella Bi-Xenon headlights, lightweight aircon, even the scuttle panel at the base of the screen has been replaced with a 993 part which has the...
