Wow what was it like sitting in it? I see carbon fiber everywhere. What a breath taking work of art !!! What were your impressions seeing this car up close in person?

Wow! I love the GT1! Is this owned by someone in Australia? Or was it bought out here for this event?

This and the Martini 935 'Baby' (Photos coming. Stand by) were brought out for this weekend from the Porsche Museum in Zufffenhausen, Germany. Porsche Cars Australia - the distributor - has a good relationship withe the factory. Klaus Bischoff is the curator of the museum, he was there, along with assorted Factory mechanics. The cars were driven by local Aussie race drivers. I'd seen 935s & GT1s before, but not these 2 particular cars. They are both the only examples built of each. I can't imagine the GT1 as a road car. It was very difficult to get in & out of, due to the wide sills and very low roof. Once in the seat, there's very little headroom, it would be almost impossible with a helmet on. There not a lot of forward vision, and obviously none out the back. Each lane change would be a new experience in terror, but 700 bhp would get you into that hole in the traffic pretty smartly. V, it's a stunning thing to be close to & examine. For a race car, the panel fit & finish is as good as a 997. The interior is ALL carbon fibre. Very cool. But I think with no A/C or opening windows, it would also be very hot. And loud!

I have seen a few GT1 streets in pictures from europe and the usa. There was a racing GT1 at the GP a few years ago. Great spot, would be awesome to see on the track!

Great set of shots OS. Can't imagine flat out down Conrod in this beast. I see in image 16, car 8 is the new Boxster Spyder.

It sure is. http://www.madwhips.com/boxster-spyder-pdk-at-mt-panorama-circuit-australia/ . . . . . mgray, despite the confusing info on Wikipedia, this is the only road-going 1998 GT1, and there were 3 race cars. I spoke to Klaus Bischoff about this.

Yes this car has a different body style to the usual GT1 street.

Yes, the previous GT1 was a different shape. They're all way up there on the awsomeness scale though.

Absolutely, jaw-droppingly awesome. Great to see it out being used as intended. Australia just seems to have more enthusiasts who actually use their cars than anywhere else. I'll be over to stay for good before I'm 30, boys.

I'll book you a good viewing spot for the Friday afternoon kangaroo stampede down the main street of Sydney.

Wow, that STILL happens? I thought it was just a rumour sent back to the Motherland by the convicts in the colonies... ;)

4:30 Friday arvo every week. And it's genuine, not just a show put on for the tourists. And then there are the funnel web spider roundups every other 8th week of Octember. I believe the Sydney Opera House is on ebay again too . . . . . . .

All I can hear in my head is: "Skippy...... Skippy..... Skippy the Bush Kangaroo....." I've already made my bid for that weird Mosque thing on the harbour...

Mosque? Don't give 'em ideas.

Hehehehe... Interesting that you are planning a permanent move to Australia, JamesAsh. Sounds like you have had that plan for a while. Are you going to move to Sydney?

Nah, I've heard the locals aren't very welcoming....

There's a popular expression down here which is reserved for prospective new arrivals: "F*** off, we're full!" It's available on T-shirts, bumper stickers, tattoos, sky writing....you name it.

Wasn't it a phrase coined at British prisons in the 1800s? In unrelated news, I am very proud of my new found status as MW's whinging Limey!

Also painted my GT1 on Forza baby blue like this one, and it'll still trounce all the modern machinery in its class even on the most difficult settings. 'Twas a good weekend...

This car is in fact white, though it does show up as pale blue in some shots. Must be summink to do with the glare. I tried to get rid of the blue tint on the mac.
