This is one of the most amazing looking cars I have ever seen. It is unbelievable how wide and long this thing is! Regulations for the GT1 Category say that to be eligible, Porsche needed to make 25 road legal versions of the GT1. I am pretty sure that this particular one comes yearly to Porsche Melbourne straight from the Porshce Museum in Germany (Correct me if I am wrong) It's engine kicks out around 400kW and is good for 100km/h in 3.3 seconds and on to a top speed of 378km/h (235mph)

Even if you don't want to. Remember the 1999 Mercedes CLSs at Le Mans? One of their aerobatic pilots has won the last 2 F1 GPs.

It wasn't the car's fault, it was that big Aussie oaf driving the thing! Hehe, he did literally OWN Monte Carlo this weekend, huh? Hard to see how the Red Bulls can be beaten this season. Back to Le Mans, I watched a very good documentary on Sunday night about the '55 Le Mans disaster (another time a Mercedes flew off the track - did they not learn?). It's on BBC iPlayer, called The Deadliest Crash. I don't know if you can watch that from outside the UK but I'm sure it'll turn up on the 'Tube eventually.

Yes, Mark W & Peter Dumbreck share a dubious honour. SAAB, Mitsubishi, BMW have an aviation heritage, Mercedes should be added to that list. Funny how the CLS has never seen the light of day since. I do have a very rare model of one, I bought as many models as I could of the cars that ran at Le Mans the year that I was there. I'll keep an eye out for The Deadliest Crash.

Actually, I'm wrong. It was the CLR. My memory has failed me. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_CLR It was intended to replace the CLK-GTR. Turned out to be an aircraft instead of a car.

I do remember being absolutely blown away when I first saw the CLK-GTR, but now it looks a bit contrived to me with that generic Merc face glued on! I think the 911 GT1 has aged better. What's that? Me, defending Stuttgart's honour? You must be mistaken...

I find the look of the 996 based GT1 to be preferable to this, the 1998 GT1. But then I prefer the 250SWB to the 250GTO, so what would I know?

Do you mean the original that had the three half-moon vents on the nose? Because that's the best looking car ever, in my opinion. The 'other' GTO, I believe called the GTO/64, isn't so pretty to me. But yeah, the SWB is unutterably gorgeous, and may indeed be the 'coolest' car ever produced.
