I'm not a fan of the slope nose, but I think RUF builds better Porsches than Porsche does. Raw but refined, insanely quick, exclusive, bulletproof.

While I don't fully agree with you re the slope nose, I do fully agree re RUFs - such beautiful workmanship and eye for detail mated to serious mechanical integrity. But then, technically, they build RUFs and not Porsches - I hadn't realised they actually remove the Porsche VIN plate and have their own one! I'd tear off my left arm to have this in the (imaginary) garage.

Years ago I did a petrolhead tour of Europe : Le Mans, the 'Ring, Ferrari, Porsche, Mercedes, ruf, Koenig, Gemballa, the Solitude Ring circuit in Stuttgart, Schlumpf Museum ... you get the idea. At ruf there were bare bodies-in-white ready to be built into cars. ruf buys the shells from Porsche, and yes, builds and registers them as rufs, not Porsches. They are very special cars. You have of course seen the ruf DVD 'Faszination at der Nurburgring'? The best driving you will EVER see.

Schlumpf was the exact noise I made reading about that trip! Sounds amazing mate. Did you get to meet Alois Ruf? Stefan Roser is my personal hero - sideways at 140mph while wearing brogues, anyone?

Didn't meet the man, but through contacts I did get a guided tour through the workshop, dyno room, body shop etc. Exceedingly cool. Stefan also has no helmet and just a lap/sash belt. Legend. Incredible just how hard the Yellow Bird accelerates in the higher gears. And that was, when, 1988?

I was 3. Yet more proof that I was born too late. Damn.

I ain't a-gonna tell you how old I was. But I will say that I remember when the Development Application was submitted for the Pyramids.

Haha I had a little LOL at that one (I believe that's what hip and trendy people are saying these days). Just been doing a bit of research on the Solitude Ring - I'd heard of it but didn't know anything about it. By all accounts it sounds nearly as daunting as the Nurburgring. Armco is for wimps, I prefer thick German forest!
