1958 Holdens at Mt Panorama circuit Bathurst Australia - 4

Album details

Capture Date: Apr. 5, 2010
City: Bathurst Australia
Event: Festival of Sports Cars

These old girls were on display at Mt Panorama over the easter weekend. They run 2.2 litre six cylinder motors giving a thundering 53 kilowatts. Drum brakes. Manual choke. Single carby. 3 on the tree. Vacuum wipers. We've come a long way. There were nearly 200,000 of them sold between 1958 & 1960, quite a large number given Australia's small population back then. I hadn't seen one for a long time, then there were all of these at Bathurst. And I saw one on the road today. Holden is a division of GM, you can see the Chevrolet influence in the styling. The first shot - not the title shot - is a 1964 EH Holden Premier. It's unusual to see one at all these days, particularly one like this in totally original condition. By 1964 Holdens were putting out up to 90Kw for the 'high performance' models, and could go from 0-97 mph in 13.4 seconds.

0-100ish in 13.4? That's pretty damn quick with 90Kw, or about 120bhp. Like Boxster S quick. My old lightly-worked-on Peugeot 106 GTi had about 135-brake and that wouldn't be anywhere near 100 mph in 13 sec. Love the Louis Vuitton-esque grille on the purple and yellow one! Didn't Harold from Neighbours have a Premier?

That should probably be 0 - 97 k/mh. I can say with a certain degree of pride that I have never watched an episode of Neighbours. And I never will.

Aha, not quite so sprightly! Not bad with about 60-brake though. "Neighbours.... EVERYBODY NEEDS GOOD NEIGHBOURS!!" Maybe it's time for my medication
